OverviewThe Battery Status Monitor (BSM) is a limited range Light Emitting Diode (LED) voltmeter, designed to monitor the voltage across a 12V battery in an automotive situation. It can give an early warning of problems due to over or under charging, and indicate a 'tired', below capacity battery. When connected as recommended the BSM can also function as an 'ignition on' warning lamp. The monitor is protected against electrical abuse and will give stable results even in adverse conditions and temperatures, reverse connection will not cause damage. The electronics "cube" is only 21mm on each edge so is easily hidden. Fitting & TestingIt is important to site the BSM correctly; the LED may be too bright at night if viewed directly but if off the line of sight it may be difficult to see in bright sun light. Care should therefore be taken to place the monitor appropriately so that it will be usable at both extremes. Drill a 14.0mm hole. Place the bezel through the hole from the front. From behind the panel, push the LED through the bezel until it clicks. Secure the control cube into the wiring loom with the cable tie provided. Join the positive (RED) and negative (BLACK) wires to the ignition circuit and earth, according to the vehicle's polarity. For positive earth vehicles this will be RED to earth and BLACK to ignition. If the unit fails to light up, the connections could be reversed but the unit will not be damaged! Operation
